Beyond Rebuilt!.. There is a big difference between Remanufactured and Rebuilt Engines and Transmissions. |
At ImportMotor select components are remanufactured to meet or exceed strict Volkswagen or Porsche factory specifications. You can be assured that any potential point of wear, and not just the point that ostensibly failed, has been checked for integrity within strict tolerances.
Even after our professional remanufacturing process, any component that does not meet or exceed the same standards new parts must meet will be rejected before they can leave the factory. That's Beyond Rebuilt!
Remanufactured or New as specified in 'KEY FEATURES' table of engine item number.
1600 - 2332cc Type I, II or II. Cleaned and inspected for any possible flaws. Align-bored and new high-tech case stud inserts are installed in all 1600cc thru 2332cc engine cases for your oil leak protection.
914 and Type II ('72-'83) Engine cases are all top choice original alloy from Porsche or Volkswagen ..and we install threaded oil galley plugs to prevent oil leaks.
NEW or Premium German cores are remanufactured as specified in 'KEY FEATURES' table of item number using premium high-tech valve seats and maganese-bronze valve guides. After our three-angle valve seat refinishing . . they are leak-tested for further assurance prior to installation. All cylinder heads prepared to run at optimum performance on unleaded gasoline.
New Premium Quality Pistons, Cylinders, Rings and pins .... Quality and endurance unsurpassed.
CAMSHAFT and VALVE TRAIN:
New or Remanufactured original German cam and lifters. Lift and duration specified in 'KEY FEATURES' of item.
We use Forged German balanced crankshafts for their superior oiling and longevity propertes. Cores are shot peened, bead blasted, then carefully inspected for cracks, straightness and damage to the dowel pin holes and threaded ends. 'SPG' infers that the dowel holes are offset, like the SPG cranks were, to insure matching with the Flywheel. Cranks are totally remanufactured to exact specifications.
All engines are supplied with German original remanufactured cores, unless upgraded to high performance rods. Rods are shot-peened, bead blasted and checked for straightness. New wrist pin bushings are installed then rods are bored and honed center to center. Balanced and matched sets.
Only New or fully remanufactured balanced flywheels (Or auto. driveplate) are installed. We remanufacture worn or damaged teeth, dowel pin holes and clutch disc mating surface to make sure it meets original operational depth specifications if necessary. After shot peening and sandblasting, the seal area is polished. Dowel pin hole area is faced to ensure proper mating to the crank and then precision ground and polished to exact specifications. 'SPG' infers that dowel holes are off-set 8-hole to match the crank.
LUBRICATION, ENGINE BEARINGS, GASKETS, ETC.
Oil pump is replaced with New or Remenufactured unit. This insures increased oil pressure during low speed operation. Pumped oil volume is increased by 20% - 30% over the old unit... promoting lower operating temperatures and improved lubrication.
All new Main, Rod and Cam bearings. German licensed manufacture. (early 1200cc are without cam bearings) Cam bearings in Type I style engines (1600-2332cc)are the double thrust style providing an equal 360 degree surface to support the camshaft and control wear.
New gaskets and oil seals are used throughout.

WE INSTALL IT BEFORE YOU DO! ... WE TEST RUN IT BEFORE YOU DO!
Every one of our air-cooled and water-cooled Vanagon engines produced for a Volkswagen or Porsche 914 is test run before it leaves the plant. Turnkey Motors are test run twice! First in its longblock configuration ... second in its final turnkey state as delivered to you.
We bolt the engine up to a tranny and install ignition, exhaust, carburation, etc. in our custom test-cell. It is run & tested for compression, oil leaks, oil pressure, etc. a minimum of one hour!!
When it passes this strict testing, it is labeled "ATC" ...."AVAILABLE to the CUSTOMER"
It's just like we put it in our car before you put it in yours. This extensive testing insures your quality product is without any possible flaws!
HORSEPOWERWe do not "Dyno" every engine nor have a published list for you. We test-run this engine individually for quality and insurance that you receive the best value. A real "Dyno" run would add additional cost to our products. We do offer a full-on 'Dyno' run under 'Options'.Our experience with the engine configurations has been proven over years and we can provide a close estimate for your choice. Give us an idea of what your goal might be.Longblock horsepower cannot be accurate. Exhaust, ignition or intake package is not furnished. We favor the WEBER, EMPI and SOLEX carburetor intake packages and have them available.
Turnkey Motors are supplied without exhaust system or heater boxes. We have reconditioned heater boxes available for most models.
NOTHING IS LEFT TO CHANCE WITH OUR 'BEYOND REBUILT' REMANUFACTURE!
Our products are remanufactured professionally, intended for the client that demands quality and the utmost value possible. We are not a "Swap Meet" or "Show Booth" rebuilder organization.
Our final insurance step for you . . . Engines are installed into our custom test-cell and actually 'fired up' and run. It's as if we installed it into our car before you install it into your car! ..This extensive testing includes, but not limited to, oil pressure, cylinder compression, presence of oil leaks or abnormal noises. Nothing is left to chance!
The foregoing details relate to all VW and Porsche 914 air-cooled longblock engines.
CUSTOM or SPECIAL APPLICATIONS
Engines designed for original 1600cc-based applications will not fit into '72-'83 Type II Bus or Van .. nor ANY Porsche models without extensive modifications. Engines designed for original Porsche 914 or '72-'83 Type II Bus or Van will not fit 1600cc-based applications without extensive modifications.
MOST IMPORTANT! .. Engines installed, as above, will most likely overheat. (Sucessful installations have been done .. you might search the different VW and Porsche sights for some help). We do not have advice, experience nor instructions on custom installations.
DON'T BUY A BAG OF TRICKS!
Like . . . WHEN the WARRANTY RUNS OUT . . . SO WILL the MECHANIC!!
Before you spend your hard-earned money on anything like an engine, know who you are dealing with!
Ask any knowledgeable and credible mechanic about rebuilt engines and you'll most likely hear horror stories a mile long!
The truth is . . . there are a lot of rebuilders that take the 'ol "Favorite Tricks Shortcuts" when rebuilding. Some, not intentional. Others, so they can go to the bank with a little more of your money!
Then, there is the out-and-out "Smoozer" . . . please be careful.
